Following Your Excitement: One Way the Soul Speaks

Woman running joyfully through a field at sunset with arms open, representing freedom and following excitement.

We spend so much time asking ourselves, What is my purpose? What should I do next?

Then we wait anxiously, hoping for a clear, loud answer. We call out for guidance. We look for signs. We want a roadmap. And when one doesn’t come, it’s easy to feel frustrated or wonder if we are missing something.

I’ve learned that guidance rarely shows up that way.

For me, it usually begins as something much quieter. A feeling. A spark of curiosity. A gentle pull toward something that doesn’t always make logical sense but somehow feels worth exploring.

How One Small Decision Changed Me

I was in need of a self-care day and about to schedule another massage when Reiki kept appearing in my search results. I had heard of Reiki before, but I was a major skeptic. Why would I pay someone to place their hands near my body when I could get an actual massage for the same cost? With my limited knowledge of energy work at the time, it made no sense. My mind said don’t go, but something in my body kept pulling me toward it. So I booked the appointment.

I left that first session feeling surprisingly relaxed. But if you had asked me to explain what Reiki was, or whether I believed in it afterward, I honestly wasn’t sure.

Was she just waving her hands around?

Maybe.

I didn’t know.

But in the days that followed, I couldn’t explain why I felt different. Was it just a coincidence? Whatever it was, something kept pulling me back. So I booked another session…and then another.

Saying yes to that first appointment changed me far more than I ever could have imagined. It wasn’t just my introduction to Reiki. It led me to new friendships, community, deep healing, and ultimately a completely different way of living — one with more presence, more peace, more joy, and genuine happiness.

None of that showed up when I searched for massage locations. All I had was a spark of curiosity and a pull I couldn’t quite ignore.

How Soul Guidance Actually Shows Up

That experience taught me something important. Our soul rarely communicates the way our mind wants it to. It doesn’t shout actions to take. That’s one of the many reason why I have found meditation to be so helpful. Sitting in stillness helps my mind settle so these subtle messages can come through more easily.

I’ve also found that my soul speaks through signals — excitement, curiosity, and resonance.

These feelings aren’t random. They are information. They are one of the ways our soul gently guides us.

Following your excitement can sound too simple. I used to think the same way. Sure, I’d love to follow my excitement. That sounds great, but I have bills to pay, responsibilities, and a million things on my to-do list.

But I’ve discovered that following excitement doesn’t mean living a constantly thrilling life. It starts with small, everyday choices.

The Power of Small Decisions

Following your excitement doesn’t always begin with life-changing decisions. Sometimes it begins with something incredibly small.

Taking that course.

Visiting that place.

Having that conversation.

Each small choice that leans towards excitement creates more joy. And the more joy we feel, the easier it is to feel grateful and at peace.

When Fear Shows Up

Of course, our mind has a way of interrupting these moments. As soon as excitement appears, fear chimes in with practical concerns. What if it doesn’t work? What if I waste my time?

I know those thoughts well. They usually show up when I’m stepping outside what feels familiar. My mind mistakes the unknown for danger. That doesn’t mean I follow every impulse. But I’ve learned not to dismiss something just because it feels uncertain. Sometimes uncertainty is just another word for growth.

Why Following Excitement Matters

Following your excitement is a way of coming back to yourself. It is a way to step out of autopilot living and begin co-creating with life instead of just enduring it. It strengthens our connection to our inner guidance and allows more clarity to come through.

The beautiful part is that it doesn’t require dramatic changes.

Trust Your Excitement

Follow your excitement. It knows the way. It may not give you the full road map, but it will nudge you in the right direction one step at a time.

I invite you to think of one small decision you need to make today. Consider your options. If one option sounds even slightly more exciting than the other, choose it.

You don’t need all the answers. You only need to start noticing the answers that are already being given to you.
